Sound familiar?

Players who train brilliantly and compete badly
Tension accumulating across a match until decision-making goes. It usually gets treated as a technical issue because that is what there are tools for.

The talented one who is too nice on court
Nobody has told them that competing hard on court and being a good person off it can sit alongside each other.

A player who has gone flat
Often depletion. The instinctive response is more work, which tends to accelerate it. This is the player you lose at seventeen.

Coaches out of their depth
A player says something at the end of a session and the coach has no idea what to do with it.

Nowhere to send someone
Safeguarding procedures allow a concern to be reported. They rarely provide a route to a player actually being treated.

Starting with coaching staff

A young player controls almost nothing about their own environment. Their schedule, their coaching, the expectations on them, the car journey home. Adults hold all of it.

Coaching staff see these players four or five times a week. They hold the conversation in the fifteen minutes after a defeat, and they are the first to notice when something has changed. Very few have had training for either.

Players move on. Coaching staff remain, so anything taken from a session continues to benefit every player who comes through afterwards.

14 sessions to choose from

Each runs 25-45 minutes. We build a 90 minute session from 2 or 3, around whatever you’re dealing with that term.

For coaching staff:
Five modules

  • Reading a player before you lose them
  • Responding to disclosure
  • The conversation after a defeat
  • Getting more from quiet players
  • Looking after yourselves

For players:
Six modules, age-banded

  • Competing hard, playing fair
  • What to do between points
  • Nerves before you play
  • Losing well
  • Running on empty
  • Who you are when you are not winning

For parents:
Three modules

  • The journey home
  • Supporting ambition without adding to the load
  • When your child stops enjoying it.
